Thinking of all the good things in my Second Life.

Dear Diary:

The other day I realized that this year was coming to an end.  Where did the time go to? When did the days go by so fast?  Why didn't I realize that everything was whizzing by?  It was time to sit in my favourite chair and think about the year that passed me by.

This was a very exciting year for me.  I met some new friends who will always be close to me.  They're fun and always ready to go some place new.  I've seen some great live musicians who are very talented and give their audiences their best.  I've visited some truly amazing sites - ones that put me in awe of their creators who have the imagination to be able to put their dreams into production.

The presents that have been sent my way have been truly amazing.  I've received some awesome gifts from clothes designers, who manage to keep me in satin and furs; from jewelry makers who decorate me in diamonds and pearls; and to hair entrepreneurs who enable me to change my look at my every whim.  I'm a shoe fanatic and have hundreds in my inventory from stilettos to runners, from boots to sandals. And who can pass up the skin makers who give me that flawless, unlined face.

The furniture originators make my house look like it came from Architectural Digest with only the latest in design.  I'm able to dance like a pro; stand like a diva and walk like a model all because talented people know how to make poses that mirror human movement. It amazes me at all this talent that has made my second life so exciting.

And of course, I'm thrilled that I have you, you who read my ramblings and rantings. I've learned a lot in the few months that I've been writing my diary and I expect to learn more in the new year. I'm really looking forward to that!

Many thanks to all of you for what you've given me this past year.  Thank you for the best Second Life.

Good Night for now.

Boxing Day in Canada

Dear Diary:

Yes, today is Boxing Day in Canada and in many other places in the world.  It has a long history behind the day, some facts from the Middle Ages. However, the data is often obscure or variable but the meaning behind the day is always interesting.

I always enjoy this day.  It's always nice to have a day off of work but it's a day to sit and relax after the crazy, whirlwind day of Christmas festivities.

Today I am just taking it easy - if dishes from last night's dinner; washing table cloths, silverware and napkins; scrubbing the sticky whatevers off the kitchen floor; and vacuuming up the ground in cookies, count as "taking it easy".

Tonight I'm going out to a formal ball where you must wear "Christmas colours".  I really hope navy counts as a "Christmas colour" because I really like the look of this dress. I love the filmy skirt.  I always feel like I'm floating.
The back has such great detail, with the lace insert.
I know the evening will go so quickly that it will just be a blur but I don't get a chance to wear a formal dress that often so I'm knocking myself out to look great.  It will be a fun night.

Good night for now.

I'm SO tired from Wrapping

Dear Diary:

I really love to wrap at Christmas time.  Hmmm...no...wait...I wrote that wrong.  It should be - I really love THE wrap at Christmas time.  And that's exactly what I've discovered about myself.  I do love the wrapping stuff.  The multitude of papers with their glitzy, shiny colours; the frothy bows in satiny textures; and even the tags that might be stick-on, tie-on or tape-on, all get me excited about the wrapping process.
It's just a matter of getting all the wrap and ribbon out, getting a comfortable place to sit and not stopping until it's finished.
I think my problem is that I like all the gifts to look pretty.  I seem to spend a lot of time with each one.  I mean, I wouldn't want it any other way but it does take me hours to wrap everything.  It's the big awkward ones that seem to tap my energy.  I see one more to go.
DONE!  So that's it for this year.  Now all I have to do is persuade everyone not to rip it all off in 10 seconds.  [Laughing cuz I know that won't happen!]

Good Night for now.

Just ONE more decoration

Dear Diary:

I was going to start my wrapping today but my neighbour said that a wreath on my garage door would add to my outside decorations.  "Oh!", I said, "Really?  Do you really think it's necessary?"  He raised one of his eyebrows at me and just went, "Hmmmmm".  I think he was trying delicately to tell me something.  So I got on my warm clothes, headed out to the shed to try and find my extra wreaths.
This is wonderful weather for decorating outside. It's crisp and cold but with no wind it makes it a pleasure to be out.  I had to walk through snowy trees to get to the shed but it was worth it.
Lucky me!! I found the first wreath without a problem.  Sometimes when I put away the Christmas decorations at the end of the season, I'm not as careful storing them.  Then when it comes time next year to get all the things out, I can't remember where I put them.
I managed to find the second right away too. I just needed to dig the step ladder out to be able to hang these up.  I wonder where I put the step ladder?

Oh well!  I'm now entirely finished with the decorating and need to get at my wrapping in the next few days.

Good Night for now.

Decorate...and eat a bit....decorate....and eat a bit

Dear Diary:

Tonight I'm going to a Christmas party with some friends.  I love the parties at this time of year.  It's always dress-up-major, deck-the-ears-neck-wrist, and do-the-do kind of time.  I love putting on the make-up, the jewelry, the push-up bra with the strapless dress and going out and just having a great time with the people I love.

I thought I'd better finish the tree before I left so I got myself in gear and packed the tree with lots of bling.  Sometimes I put candy canes on the tree but usually what happens is that I eat a bunch before they even reach the branches.  Then the peppermint starts to get to me.  YUUUUCKK!!!!  Just over-kill!
It was a relief getting ONE of the inside trees decorated with lights and all the extras.  I put this one in the front window because it just looked so glittery. I wanted all the neighbours to see it. I think I'm almost finished with the decorations now.  I guess I should start wrapping soon.  That's a big job I must tackle next week.

Well, off I go to have some fun.

I Need to get the Shopping Finished

Dear Diary:

The days just seem to be flying by.  After I sat by the fire the other night, I decided to persevere and get the rest of the presents bought and wrapped.  And...oh yes...I absolutely HAD to pick up some things for me for the holiday season.

The snow let up a bit so I went out to my favourite shopping district in Liberty.  I shop at a lot of the stores there [Baiastice, Modern Gypsy, Morantique] so being all central, I could just walk from store to store and "ka-ching" with the plastic.

I parked the car and was off and running into the closest place.  The cold and snow didn't even bother me.  It's the excitement of the buy that gets the adrenalin running!
Obviously the snow plough had been over the roads a few times and had managed to push drifts on the sidewalk.  But did that stop me?  Oh no!!!  I just climbed right over.
I must admit I'm glad I braved the weather.  I picked up things to finish - hmmmm - almost finish - my Christmas gift buying. And things to supplement my Christmas wardrobe.

Good Night for now.

P.S.  I had not participated in Luna Jubilee's 52 weeks of colour since November, thinking I would get Christmas finished but surprise surprise!  This week I managed to fit it in with my coat and shopping bag.  A bonus week for sure.  {By the way, it's yellow!}

It Was a Cold Snowy Night and....

Dear Diary:

Oh yes...the weather turned really cold, really quickly.  It was snowy, blowy and not a good day for going out to shop, to decorate or to go clubbing.  On top of everything, I started to get my annual cold - sniffling, sneezing, snorting.  So I decided this was a perfect night to make some hot chocolate and sit by the fire.  I did need to consider the gifts I had bought.  Hmmmm....did I have everything for the little ones?  What about Uncle Joe?  He's always so picky.  Maybe I should pick up something else for Aunt Irene.
I put on my cozy flannel Christmas jammies and got the fire going.  It's so nice to sit by the fire, warming your hands on a blustery evening. It really made me feel so comfortable.
I picked up my toy moose, that matches my slippers [a little "security blanket" when I'm feeling lousy], and sat up on the mantle, taking the place of the stockings that will soon be hanging there.
There's nothing like taking a break from the hustle and bustle and giving some time to yourself.

I know...I know...I know.  I'm goofing off tonight.  But I really need to chill a bit and renew my energies for the days ahead.  I think everybody needs to do that at this busy time of year.  Look after yourself.

Good Night for now.

Does the Christmas tree have to be green?

Dear Diary:

Yes, I'm a traditionalist!  I like my shortbread buttery; I adore a snowy Christmas Eve; and I want my Christmas tree to be real.  I don't want a colour co-ordinated theme either with just bows or ribbons.  On my tree, I have tons of ornaments collected from my Grandmother, my Mother and ones I've picked up from places I've been to or just because they catch my eye so they are all a big variety but they all tell a story.  But sometimes the sparkly / modern / fashionable tree draws me in.  Sometimes I just need to pay attention to it.
The white tree always fits in with any colour scheme.  It can be totally white or combined with any colour.  At night it looks cool when it's covered with white lights.  I do love this totally radical silver metal tree, too.  It twirls around, highlighting the muted ornaments and sparkling star.  Neither of these trees would ever be my choice as a Christmas tree in my home but I do like these as decorative pieces.

I decided I needed to wear silver with the trees.  The gunmetal colour of the sequins on the dress, makes it stand out.  And I love the design of it - it's very sexy without being "in-your-face".  With it, silver jewelry of course.

I love getting dressed up and if I can pose with a few of my decorations, that's all the better.  Christmas is just so much fun.

Even the outside needs some decorations

Dear Diary:

The weather really is getting wintery.  Of course there is snow on the ground but the wind is blowing harder and chillier and there are always a few flakes flying around.  But I knew the trees outside had to have some decorations on them so I went out the other night just before I went dancing.  It was chilly but the thought of my house looking all glowy and toasty, made me feel likewise inside.
Some of my trees were snow covered and with the white lights and silver bows, they looked straight out of a Christmas card.  But I wanted to concentrate on the poor little green fir that just didn't seem to stand up straight.  I put on coloured lights and big coloured baubles to make it feel just as important as the other ones.

I thought I looked just as decorative in my gold formal gown.  Hmmm....guess I could stand in the garden and be a Christmas decoration too.  Hmmmm...guess not!  I think I would be frozen within a few minutes.

I'm really enjoying decorating my house AND myself this month.  Looking forward to more decorations of both.

'Tis the Season!

Dear Diary:

I'm absolutely thrilled that this is now December!!  This has got to be my above-all-first-place-magical favourite time of year.  I love the over abundance of red and green; the trees from tacky to trendy; the total hedonistic desire to give the right thing; and the kindness of people who usually disregard the obvious.  I love it all!!

I confess - I'm a Christmas junkie!  I decorate to the extreme and probably go that far in spending too but it comes only once a year and I love it. [Did I say that before?]

I started out decorating on December 1st and will continue on until I've run out of time or decorations.  I decided that the fireplace was the first spot I would tackle.  So I put on some Christmas music, poured myself some egg nog, dressed up in my "best" and started out.
I put a garland across the mantle that has twinkling lights with red bows.  It always looks very Christmasy and so bright when it turns evening.  I placed a matching wreath above on the chimney stack. It happens to be out of the picture.

Of course to do the decorating, one definitely must dress up and wear red.  I got this dress a year ago but I love the lacey look to the skirt.  It's a great cocktail dress and can be worn any time of the year.

I'm really looking forward to this month and putting on my party clothes.  I don't get a chance to do that often except at this time. YAY!!!  I'm really looking forward to digging out some of the glitzy dresses to show you.

Next time, I'm tackling the tree.

I'm so glad to be home.

Dear Diary:

Well I got back from my trip earlier today and I did have a wonderful time visiting with family on American Thanksgiving.  Of course I ate way too much turkey [for several days, I might add!] but I enjoyed every minute of it.  Exercise time coming up!

Thanksgiving would not be the same without Black Friday and I did my part in adding to the economy.  I hit the stores about 4am and came home around 5pm.  I think I made my credit card feel loved once more.
I started unloading the car with my purchases and felt I had done really good at picking out the right things for everyone.
Hmmm...this seemed particularly heavy...what did I buy in this bag?
OK...is this everything now?  I had to check it all out to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything.
WOW!!!  I just can't believe I bought that much stuff!  Well, I did get most of my Christmas shopping done and I do feel happy with my choices.  Is this what they call "buyer's remorse"?  No...no remorse here!  I'm just happy I got it all done.

It was a wonderful trip.  It was great being with family; wonderful food; and super shopping!  Wait til next year!  I have my plans all made out.

Good Night for now.

♫♩♩ ♫ Leaving on a Jet Plane ♫♩♩♫

Dear Diary:

By the time you read this, I will be out of the country.  I'm leaving to go to the States for a visit and to celebrate American Thanksgiving.  Mmmmm...can smell the turkey cooking as I'm writing this.

I got to the airport early.  It's always a good idea when you know there's going to be lines of people all waiting to board a flight to somewhere.  I only took two suitcases this year.  One is packed full and the other almost empty.  Well, after all, you need room for all the great bargains that I'm going to buy.
I struggled to get the bags into the airport and hurried to have the big one checked through.  I was worried the other wouldn't fit the measurements for the carry-on but it did.  Whew!  I was happy about that.  Finally I had a chance to relax.
The man next to me was kind enough to move his bag but didn't seem really talkative.  That's OK by me.  Sometimes I just like to people watch.  Soon it was time for boarding anyway and time to go through security.

My passport was ready.
And I was ready for the pat down!

It didn't take long at all and before you knew it, I was on the plane ready for take-off.

So here I am.  All ready for the turkey dinner, shopping on Black Friday and enjoying the holiday with family.

Happy Thanksgiving wishes to all my American friends.  I hope the day is full of fun and food.  See ya in the mall!

Dear Diary, you won't hear from me for a week since I'll be away from you for that length of time.  But don't worry.  I'll have lots of things to tell you when I get home.

Not Out of the Blue Yet

Dear Diary:

A few days back I was lamenting the fact that blue was not my favourite colour but I think I'm going to show you another "blue" look with some more of my favs in blue.
I bought this dress almost 2 years ago and have worn it on many occasions.  It's short and sexy but put a jacket on and it can look very tailored.  I like the black binding that criss-crosses on the bodice.  The neckline is very flattering for most shapes.

Truth hair is awesome!  I can't tell you how many styles I have but all of them look good at any time or any place.  Riley is one I wear often and since it has a colour changing headband, it works at ease with different looks.  I like the bouncy curls.  It can look casual but dressy too.

Of course my Bax boots are the ultimate for me.  I love the many options that go with them - sizing of course; slight colour changes; cuff; zipper.

Glow Studio always puts out such wonderful earrings.  I love big chunky jewelry and Glow always provides me with my fix. These Mosiac ones have several colours throughout so they add to a lot of different outfits.

Whew!  This blue thing wasn't as hard as I thought and I had such fun looking through my closet.

Good Night for now.

It's a BLUE Monday!

Dear Diary:

I like to read what others have to say about fashion and furniture, so when I heard the idea of talking about "colour" weeks suggested by Luna Jubilee, I thought, "What a great idea!  A fresh approach to the week!"  This is the second week but I'm getting in on the BLUE challenge.

Blue is not my favourite colour but when I looked in my closet I found a lot of items that I wear quite a bit...and guess what?....they're BLUE!

I decided to start with a casual look, since that's me most of the time and in this picture, I'm wearing lots of blue things but 3 of them are my all-time favs.

First it's my jeans.  I love jeans and have many pairs in my closet as I'm sure most chicks do but these jeans I wear 90% of the time.  They're denim but not the phony denim texture; they look well-worn without looking grungy; and the stitching on the cuff and side looks real.  I totally love these jeans.  Unfortunately you can't buy them any more so I'm looking after these with great care.

Then it's got to be my boots.  These boots are staples in my closet....when in doubt I put them on with everything.  I like the size of the heel - not too high but tapered nicely.  The top has a scrunchy look that looks good with leggings too.  The navy is a good colour because it's not too dark.

Of course, the jacket is a great looking one.  I got this a couple of years ago as a gift but it's so versatile that I wear it a lot.  I love the stud detail on the shoulder.  It gives it a military look.  The collar and sleeve cuffs have a satiny sheen which adds a bit of pizazz to the appearance.  The jacket has a slight swing back and there's a hood attachment too. This is a really well made jacket.

Of course the icing that brings this all together, is the cute top, the cool sunglasses and the blue headband holding back the myriad of curls.  All of these compliment the look.

Yeah...the blue is working for me today.  I think I'll show my favourite blue dress later this week.

Good Night for now.

One Jacket....Two Looks

Dear Diary:

Last weekend I flew to Chicago.  Of course, going through the airport can be a pain in the butt so I just wanted to take carry-on luggage.  That meant...hmmm...make-up, hair stuff, shoes...and oh yeah...room for a few clothes.  I knew we'd be going out so I wanted to take a jacket that could serve many purposes.  My houndstooth jacket fit the description perfectly.

My friend Chloe just got a new apartment with a great view of the Chicago skyline so when she picked me up from the airport, we went directly to her apartment.  It was AWESOME!!  And I still looked put together from the long flight.
I didn't even change or unpack.  We went straight to the stores to shop for some new furniture for her...and a little trinket or two for ME!

That night we went to a great supper club and then dancing after.  My houndstooth jacket covered both casual and dressy occasions quite well. It was warm and cozy and fit right in with all the up-to-date fashions.  It felt good to know that I could mix it with the Chicago crowd.
It was a great weekend so I'm planning on going back soon.
